Spring plant sales
I've posted previously (twice!) about DC area spring plant sales. I love these sales because you can pick up a ton of high quality plants while supporting our public gardens and horticultural institutions.
March 30: Native Plant Sale, US National Arboretum
April 1: DeBaggio's Herb Farm and Nursery opens for the season
April 6: Garden Party, Community Forklift
April 12 & 13: Spring Garden Market, River Farm (American Horticultural Society)
April 20: Mighty Greens first plant sale of the season (locations vary)
April 27 & 28: Plant and Herb Sale, Franciscan Monastery
April 27 & 28: Garden Fair and Plant Sale, US National Arboretum
April 27-May 27: Historic Plant and Garden Sale, Mount Vernon
May 3 & 4: Flower Mart, Washington National Cathedral
May 5: Spring Native Plant Sale, Earth Sangha
May 18: Spring Garden Day, Green Spring Gardens
Chionodoxa, Glory of the Snow, is a fall-planted bulb that comes up as early spring flowers. I planted a bunch of them in the "hellstrip" between the sidewalk and the street in front of my house. It's an impossible spot to adequately care for due to high foot traffic, but for now it gleams with petite blue flowers.
